Timothy Ferris (born August 29, 1944) is an American science writer and the best-selling author of twelve books, including The Science of Liberty (2010) and Coming of Age in the Milky Way (1988), for which he was awarded the American Institute of Physics Prize and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Ferris serves as emeritus professor in the School of Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley. A Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Professor Ferris has taught in five disciplines--astronomy, English, history, journalism, and philosophy--at four universities. Ferris has made three documentary films, all of which premiered in prime time on PBS--The Creation of the Universe, Life Beyond Earth, and Seeing in the Dark.
